VIV stands for "Verein für Interkulturelle Verständigung" - "Association for Intercultural Understanding".

VIV is learning German - and much more:
If you want to truly communicate in a foreign country, grammar and vocabulary will only get you so far.

With us, you have the possibility to experience our country and our people within the framework of an intensive language course, live together with a friendly host family and enjoy an exciting cultural program.

VIV was founded by graduates of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich in 1982. It was their goal to create an opportunity for foreign and German students to meet and communicate.

VIV has been organizing study trips, language courses and seminars for anyone and everyone interested in intercultural exchange and who want to get to know the life, culture and language of Germany.

VIV collaborates with the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU), the IUC (International University Club Munich), the European Union (Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig) and a number of foreign universities and partner institutions.

VIV is your number one qualified choice for language courses, study trips and advanced training in Munich.

VIV is recognized as a not-for-profit organization because of its dedication to cultural exchange and intercultural understanding.

Our Teachers

All of our teachers are certified to teach German as a second language. They have extensive experience teaching in Germany as well as internationally.

They are very experienced in intercultural communication and possess empathy for foreign cultures and mentalities.

They competently act as go betweens for regional studies, culture, and literature.

Advanced training is certainly available for them regularly.

Our Tutors

Our tutors play an important role in helping to acclimatize our foreign students to their new surroundings. In addition to the students' host families and teachers, tutors can help them with questions and problems.
Our tutors enrich the program with exciting activities. They are always open to suggestions and wishes the students' may have.

The tutors and our foreign students are close in age and have similar living circumstances.

The tutors also benefit from this experience. Meeting and spending time with VIV students had often lead to close friendships. Our tutors are all students at Universities in Munich.
